Alexander Suite, Wee Neuk, or the Council Chamber
Register office ceremonies in Edinburgh are at the City Chambers, 253 High Street, EH1 1YP, and the rooms are not interchangeable. The Alexander Suite is on the ground floor. You stand, the room takes up to 36 guests, and the suite has disabled access, with a lounge beside it. The Wee Neuk is Monday to Thursday, standard wording, and only you with two witnesses. There is almost nowhere for a camera during that wording, so the pictures happen on the High Street once you are outside. The Council Chamber is the large room.
Room fees are in a download, and you pay the figure in that file on the day you book. A short Wee Neuk signing is often covered in one or two hours, ceremony plus a few pictures on the High Street. The Alexander Suite gives you the room, the lounge and a little more time with up to 36 guests. If the date is in August, or during the festivals, put that in the first line. If the meal is elsewhere, send that address so the travel is in the quote.
Inside the boundary, or over the line
Say which side of the city boundary the ceremony is on. A City Chambers registrar attends venues inside the boundary. Over the line, another council is involved and the journey changes. For a small ceremony, say whether you want time on the High Street after the wording. Extra time on the street is a separate request.
The Wee Neuk has nowhere for a camera. Where are the pictures, and for how long?
Outside on the High Street once the wording is finished. One or two hours often covers the ceremony and those pictures. Book the Alexander Suite if you want up to 36 guests and a camera indoors. That suite is on the ground floor, with disabled access and a lounge beside it.
Is a small ceremony only the Wee Neuk?
It may be that room, Monday to Thursday, with two witnesses and standard wording, or a registrar at a place you have chosen inside the city boundary. Say how long you want on the High Street afterwards. The Council Chamber is the large room, so name it if that is the one you have reserved.
Our venue is outside the city boundary. What do we tell the photographer?
Which council is supplying the registrar, and which side of the boundary the ceremony is on. Travel and the building both change. Send both addresses if you are moving on to a meal, and the time you have allowed between them.
The room fee is only in a download. What do we send instead?
The room name, the start time and the hours you want. The Alexander Suite, the Wee Neuk and the Council Chamber should be priced as different jobs. If the date is in August, or falls during the festivals, say that in the first line.
